Hadrian’s Wall and Alnwick Castle
This is a long day tour from Edinburgh and is better if included as part of a multi-day tour.
Hadrian’s Wall was started in 122AD in the time of the Emperor Hadrian. It is 73 miles long, built of stone and stretches from coast to coast. There are Roman forts, latrines, bath houses and milecastles to visit, plus museums. Alnwick Castle is in northern England and has been home to the Dukes of Northumberland for 700 years. The state rooms house one of the country’s finest private art collections. The castle was used in some of the Harry Potter films – do you recognise where Harry learned to play quidditch? It has a fascinating garden with cascade, plus a Poison Garden and a wonderful tree-house to explore.
